Analyzing data
There are many ways to analyze your data.Four words you must learn so you can do this are mode, mean, median and range.
Mode
The mode of the data is the score that occurs the most often. There can be more than one mode or no mode depending on the scores you have in the set.
Observe the scores and determine which score is the most common = the mode Healthy Tip: The word 'mode' has an 'MO' at the beginning so we can remember that it occurs 'Most Often' |
Median
The median is the middle score when the scores are arranged when the scores are arranged in ascending order.
Arrange the scores in ascending order and find the middle score = the median Healthy Tip: The word 'median' has a 'D' in the center of the word so we can remember that you need to find the middle score |
Mean
The mean is the average score of all the scores in the set.
Sum of all scores / number of scores = the mean Healthy Tip: The word 'mean' has an 'A' in it, so we can remember that this stands for average and that is what you have to find |
Range
The range is the difference between the highest and lowest score.
Highest score - lowest score = the range Healthy Tip: Range has a very similar meaning in mathematical terms as in everyday life. |
